EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. –
The University of Evansville men's soccer team struggled to get its offense going Saturday night at Korte Stadium in Edwardsville, Ill., as the Purple Aces fell, 1-0, to host SIU Edwardsville and were held without a shot in the second half.

Evansville (10-6-1, 2-3-0 MVC) managed just four shots on the night, as SIU Edwardsville (6-8-2, 2-3-0 MVC) outshot the Aces, 13-4, with eight of them coming in the second half.

"I don't think we deserved to win tonight, so it is what it is," head coach Mike Jacobs said.  "We didn't finish clear scoring chances in the first half and gave away too many set pieces in the second half.  Good teams execute in both of those areas, and unfortunately, we were not good enough tonight.  Credit SIUE for executing and making adjustments."

After a scoreless first half, in which the Cougars narrowly outshot UE, 5-4, Gabe Christianson netted the lone goal of the match in the 76 th minute.  Lewis Ellis set up the scoring chance by sending in a ball from the left wing that was redirected by Christianson from just a yard out.

SIUE not only held Evansville without a shot in the second stanza, it also kept the Aces from earning a corner kick, while the Cougars were to recorded five second-half corner kicks and 10 for the game.

Four different players combined for UE's four shots, with sophomore Nate Opperman recording Evansville's only shot on goal.  Senior Brandon Causey and juniors Patrick Hodges and Joel Craig combined for the other three Aces' shots.  Junior goalkeeper Eric Teppen made four saves in goal in the defeat.  SIUE's Christian Volesky led all players with six shots.

UE will conclude its regular season next Saturday at 2 p.m., when it hosts Bradley on Senior Day at Arad McCutchan Stadium.
