WICHITA, Kan.—The University of Evansville baseball team had three players named to the 2010 State Farm Missouri Valley Conference All-Tournament Team on Saturday, as freshman shortstop Eric Stamets, junior third baseman Cody Fick, and junior outfielder Greg Wallace all garnered all-tournament team honors in a vote of the tournament’s media.

Stamets was chosen as the MVC’s All-Tournament shortstop after hitting .400 (6-for-15) in UE’s four tournament games, while knocking a double, scoring four runs, and stealing two bases. Stamets also walked four times in the four games, while posting a .526 on-base percentage in tournament play as UE’s lead-off man.

Fick, meanwhile, was the all-tournament selection at third base after ranking among the tournament’s leaders with eight RBI in four games.   Fick hit .438 in UE’s four tournament games (7-for-16), including launching two home runs while boasting a .812 slugging percentage in tournament play. Fick’s two home runs moved his season total to a league-best 19, the second-highest single-season home run total in UE history.

Wallace was one of three all-tournament selections in the outfield after being an extra-base machine for UE in its four tournament games, knocking six extra-base hits in tournament play. Wallace hit an even .500 (7-for-14) in UE’s four tournament games while knocking three doubles and three triples to post a 1.143 slugging percentage and .579 on-base percentage. With his three triples, Wallace moved his season triples total to 13, which tied the Missouri Valley Conference single-season record held by former Wichita State players P.J. Forbes and Joe Carter. With his seven hits, he also moved his season total to 91, which tied Kasey Wahl’s single-season school record for hits, set in 2006.

Evansville finished the 2010 regular-season with a 32-27 overall record. The Purple Aces will return 22 letterwinners, including seven position starters and all three all-tournament team selections, next spring.
