Amy Gallagher (Neligh, Neb./Neligh-Oakdale) has been named as an honorable mention Missouri Valley Conference Scholar-Athlete for her work both on and off of the court, in a vote by the league’s sports information directors.
Gallagher earned honorable mention honors after leading Evansville in scoring, assists, and steals this season. Entering this weekend’s State Farm MVC Tournament, Gallagher will carry season averages of 10.3 points, 2.8 assists, and 1.6 steals per game for the Purple Aces. She currently ranks 19th in the league in scoring, while also ranking 12th in the Valley in both assists and steals. She has scored in double-figures 15 times this year for UE, including scoring double-digits against every other Missouri Valley Conference team this year.
Gallagher also shines in the classroom at UE, as she currently owns a 3.47 cumulative grade-point average in Exercise Science. The MVC Scholar-Athlete honor is Gallagher’s first of her UE career. All-time 30 UE women’s basketball players have earned MVC Scholar-Athlete status in UE’s now 16 years in the conference.
Evansville (4-25 overall, 1-17 in the MVC) will open up State Farm MVC Tournament play on Thursday night at 8:35 p.m., as the Purple Aces will do battle with seventh-seeded Drake (14-14 overall, 7-11 in the MVC).
