Amy Gallagher (Neligh, Neb./Neligh-Oakdale) has been named as one of ten recipients conference-wide to receive the Missouri Valley Conference State Farm Good Neighbor Award following the winter sports season for not only her sportsmanship on the court, but also her activity in the community.
On the court, Gallagher earned honorable mention all-MVC honors during her senior season by leading the Purple Aces in scoring (10.3 ppg), assists (2.8 apg), and steals (1.6 spg). Gallagher also earned honorable mention MVC Scholar-Athlete honors after excelling in the classroom at UE with a 3.47 cumulative grade-point average in Exercise and Sport Science. She has made the Dean’s List twice at UE, and has been a part of UE’s Student-Athlete Academic Honor Roll two times during her UE career.
Gallagher has also been very active in the community, as she has volunteered her time at numerous events. She has been a volunteer for the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure, the United Way Day of Caring, the Kiwanis’ Back to School Program, the Riley Children’s Hospital Festival, the Evansville Family Day in the Park, the YMCA Half-Marathon, and the Step Out for Diabetes Walk. Gallagher has also been a spokesperson for UE’s Hoops for the Cure game benefitting breast cancer awareness, a mentor at Lodge Elementary School, and has worked with the Adopt-A-Family program and Dr. Seuss Read Across America Day.
In order to receive the MVC State Farm Good Neighbor Award, student-athletes must be in good academic standing, must demonstrate good citizenship through good sportsmanship and significant community service, and must participate in a Valley sport during the season of recognition. The MVC will recognize 10 student-athletes three times annually (fall, winter, spring) for a total of 30 honorees.
