For the third consecutive year, and for the fifth time in the past seven years, the University of Evansville women's soccer team has earned the NSCAA/adidas College Team Academic Award. The honor goes to programs that have compiled team grade point averages of 3.0 or better in the most recent grading period. UE far exceeded the requirement, with a 3.42 team GPA.
"Our girls understand that they are here for school and soccer, so it's always nice to see them being successful in the classroom as well as on the field," said Head Coach
Krista McKendree. "We stress to them that when they are done playing here, most of them will move on to jobs or graduate school rather than continuing to play soccer. The school is very accommodating with getting our athletes whatever help they need to be successful in the classroom, and I think that is apparent with how well our team does. At the end of the day, the responsibility still falls on our girls to put the work in; this is one of their rewards and a testament to the quality of individuals we have in our program."
UE placed two seniors on the 2009 Missouri Valley Conference Women's Soccer Scholar-Athlete Team:
Kellee Widener and
Kasey Kutzler.
