Three members of the University of Evansville women's soccer team were chosen today as all-Missouri Valley Conference, led by first team all-MVC defender
Kasey Kutzler. Senior defender/midfielder
Katelyn Smith was a second team selection, and freshman forward
Kristen Davis was chosen honorable mention all-MVC and as a member of the All-Freshman Team.
For Kutzler, a senior and native of Evansville, it was the third all-conference honor of her career. She made the All-Freshman Team in 2006 and was a second team all-league choice last year. Despite playing defense, Kutzler was third on the team in scoring this season with three goals. She started in all 74 matches in which she played during her four-year career.
Smith proved to be one of the most versatile players on the squad. Originally a forward, she moved to defender as a sophomore and then switched to a central midfield position during the 2009 season to help improve the team's offense. She was UE's co-leader in assists as a senior with three, and finished her career with four goals and eight assists for 13 points.
Davis immediately stepped into a starting role as a freshman, and was UE's leader in goals (5) and co-leader in total points (11). She also led the Aces in shots (44), shots on goal (22) and game-winning goals (3).
Missouri State senior midfielder Samantha Aguilar was chosen as MVC Player of the Year, Danielle Mutters of Illinois State was Defensive Player of the Year, Brittney Neumann of Creighton was Freshman of the Year, and league champion Illinois State received the Coaching Staff of the Year award. Voting was done by the seven MVC coaches.
