University of Evansville men’s soccer player
Blake Schneider has been chosen as one of 10 recipients of the Missouri Valley Conference State Farm Good Neighbor Award.
Schneider is tied for third in the Missouri Valley Conference in assists with eight, and is fifth overall for the Aces in scoring with 10 points despite being a defender.
Schneider has a 3.739 GPA as a sports management major. The Wildwood, Mo., native has made the Dean’s List and Student-Athlete Academic Honor Roll his first two semesters at UE. Schneider is also a part of the UE Student-Athlete Advisory Committee.
Off the field, Schneider is actively involved in the Evansville community. The sophomore has volunteered with the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure as well as “Kick It For the Cure” to help raise money for breast cancer awareness and research. Schneider has also participated in “Kick the Cold, Give a Coat,” UE Soccer Youth Clinics, MLK Walk and Integra Bank “Score With the Aces” Reading Program.
Schneider has also helped with “Kick for Nick” to collect used soccer balls to send to children in Iraq, Circle K Special Ed Program to help give high school students who were physically or mentally handicapped the chance to have a senior prom, and Riley Walkathon to support Green River Kiwanis and their work with Riley.
Other fall honorees includes Katie Nowak (Bradley), Claire Zach (Creighton), Mason Bucklin (Drake), Ruth Zemke (Illinois State), Scott Keeney (Indiana State), Terry Phillips (Missouri State), Chelsie Hochstedler (UNI), Tony Colletti (Southern Illinois) and Kim Wadsworth (Wichita State).
In order to be eligible for the award, the student-athlete must be in good academic standing, must demonstrate good citizenship through good sportsmanship and significant community service, and must participate in a sport, during the season of recognition. The Valley will recognize 10 student-athletes three times annually (fall, winter spring) for a total of 30 honorees. Institutions select their Good Neighbor Award honorees.
