2008 MVC Scholar-Athlete Team Selections
University of Evansville sophomore outfielder Alex Acheson (Champaign, Ill./Champaign Central) has garnered honorable mention Missouri Valley Conference Scholar-Athlete team honors for his work both on and off of the baseball diamond this spring, in a vote of the league’s sports information directors.
Acheson played in 48 games with 34 starts in the UE outfield this spring. He hit .256 with a home run, four doubles, and 15 RBI in 129 at-bats this past spring, while ranking as UE’s top defensive outfielder, committing just two errors in over 80 chances in both left and center field. Acheson posted eight multi-hit games for UE this spring, including a pair of four-hit contests.
In the classroom, Acheson has compiled a cumulative grade point average of 3.41 in two years at UE as a business management major. Acheson was named to the MVC’s Academic Honor Roll earlier this spring, and was a member of UE’s Student-Athlete Academic Honor Roll during the fall semester for posting a grade point average above 3.50 in the classroom.
The criteria for the MVC Scholar-Athlete Team voting parallels the CoSIDA standards for Academic All-America voting. Nominees must be starters or important reserves with at least a 3.00 cumulative grade point average, while having reached sophomore athletic and academic standing at their respective institution and having completed at least one full academic year at their institution.
