University of Evansville basketball players Rebekah Parker and Jason Holsinger were chosen today for the Division I-AAA Athletics Directors Association Scholar-Athlete Basketball Teams. Now in its seventh year, the organization represents Division I institutions that do not sponsor football. Basketball players from all Division I-AAA ADA member institutions are eligible for the scholar-athlete awards.
Parker, a senior from Silver Lake, Indiana, was chosen earlier this month for the prestigious Lowe's Senior CLASS Award. She will leave UE as the only basketball player in school history, male or female, to record more than 1,400 career points, 600 career rebounds, 400 career assists, and 175 career steals. Parker earned first team all-Missouri Valley Conference honors for the second year in a row this past year, after guiding UE to a share of its first MVC regular-season title, a 21-12 overall record and a second-round showing in the Postseason WNIT. Parker averaged a team-best 14.5 points while ranking among the MVC leaders in nine different statistical categories. She was UE’s first-ever three-time all-MVC selection. Academically, Parker earned first team MVC Scholar-Athlete honors and second team Academic All-District V honors from CoSIDA for the second year in a row after compiling a 3.69 grade point average in physical education and health at UE. Parker also recently earned the State Farm MVC Good Neighbor Award for her work in the community.
Holsinger, a junior, goes into his senior year ranked third in UE history in 3-point field goals (220) and fourth in both assists (399) and free throw percentage. He ranks number one among returning MVC players in scoring (1,055), 3-point field goals (220), assists (399) and free throw percentage (.854). Holsinger was chosen last month for the MVC Men’s Basketball Scholar-Athlete Team for the second year in a row. He has a 3.86 grade point average, with a double major of social studies education and economics. He was MVC Player of the Week once this past season, and MVC/Prairie Farms Scholar-Athlete of the Week twice. The native of Lapel, Indiana led all MVC players in minutes played at 35.5 per game, averaged 12.3 points and a team-high 4.6 assists, and scored 20 points or more four times. He reached 1,000 career points in February, and goes into his senior year with 1,055 points.
