University of Evansville junior guard Jason Holsinger (Lapel, Ind./Lapel) has been named to the Missouri Valley Conference’s Scholar-Athlete First Team for the second year in a row for his work both on and off of the basketball court.
Holsinger joined Drake’s Adam Emmenecker and Josh Young, Bradley’s Jeremy Crouch, and Southern Illinois’ Bryan Mullins on the five-member MVC Scholar-Athlete First Team in a vote of the league’s sports information directors. It is the second consecutive year in which Holsinger has earned first team honors, and it is his second academic honor of the season, after being named Academic All-District V first team in February by CoSIDA.
On the court, Holsinger ranks 11th in the MVC in scoring at 12.6 points per game, while also ranking among the Valley’s leaders in assists (4th-4.5 apg), free throw percentage (5th-84.1 percent), three-point field goal percentage (8th-42.6 percent), three-point field goals made (4th-2.42 per game), and assist-to-turnover ratio (9th-1.58). Off of the court, Holsinger carries a 3.86 grade point average in Social Studies and Economics at UE.
Holsinger and the Purple Aces will open up State Farm MVC Tournament play tonight at 8:30 p.m., as UE (9-20 overall, 3-15 MVC) will battle seventh-seeded Missouri State (16-15, 8-10 MVC) in first round action. Tonight's game can be heard live in the Tri-State area on the UE Radio Network.
