The University of Evansville women’s swim and dive team had seven members who received Missouri Valley Conference postseason recognition. Freshmen Christina Schmidgall and Kaitlyn Sluka garnered their first MVC All-Conference awards. Senior Nicole Uhrin and freshmen Jennifer Childers and Kristyn Benter were named All-MVC Honorable Mention. Uhrin, Anna Luecke, and Ady Sekely were also named to the 2008 MVC Scholar-Athlete team.
"I am proud of this team and what they have done this season," said head coach Rickey Perkins. "This has been a remarkable season and these awards are just the icing on the cake."
Schmidgall (Golden Valley, Minn. / Robbinsville Cooper) was one of UE’s most consistent swimmers this season, ranking in the MVC top ten in almost every individual event she has competed in and leads the team in several events. She also garnered her first MVC Swimmer of the Week selection earlier this year. Sluka (Edgewood, Ky. / Notre Dame Academy) has the team-best time in the 200 back, which she swam at the MVC Championships. She also ranks in the MVC top ten standings for her times in the 100 and 200 back. Schmidgall and Sluka were UE’s top finishers at the MVC Championships with Schmidgall finishing third in the 200 free and Sluka placing third in the 200 back.
Uhrin (Carmel, Ind. / Carmel) had the team’s best times in the 100 and 200 fly, which she swam at the MVC Championships. She also ranks in the MVC top ten in several events. The senior was also named a MVC Scholar-Athlete for her academic efforts for the second straight year. Uhrin carries a 3.59 grade point average in exercise science. Childers (Versailles, Ky. / Woodford County) finished sixth in the one-meter dive at the MVC Championships and holds the team’s best scores in both diving events. The freshman was named MVC Diver of the Week in January for setting a new pool record at Rose-Hulman. Benter (Lawrenceburg, Ind. / East Central) holds the best times in the 50 and 100 free. She swam her best time of 24.80 in the 50 free at the MVC Championships. That time also put her in the top ten in the MVC standings.
Luecke (Decatur, Ill. / Lutheran School Association) holds a 3.69 grade point average in physical therapy. The sophomore swam for events for the Aces at the MVC Championships. She swam her personal best ttime of 25.11 in the 50 free. Sekely (Yavne, Israel / Katzir Rehovot) carries a 3.98 grade point average in psychology. The sophomore has the team’s best time in the 400 IM with a time of 4:52.66, which she swam at the MVC Championships. She also swam in the 100 and 200 fly events.
The Sun Belt Conference Championships for the men will be held Feb. 28- Mar. 1 in Nashville, Tenn.
