2/20/2008 2:47:38 PM
Due to heavy rain expected on Friday in Rock Hill, South Carolina, the start of the 2008 University of Evansville baseball season has been pushed back one day to Saturday. UE will now compete in the Johnny Gill Memorial Tournament in Rock Hill, South Carolina from Saturday through Monday. With that change, the Purple Aces have also had to move Tuesday’s home opener with Kentucky Wesleyan back until mid-March.
The tentative schedule has Evansville opening its 2008 season now on Saturday afternoon against Winthrop (tentatively scheduled for a 12:00 p.m. central first-pitch). UE would then also play Gardner-Webb (10:00 a.m. Sunday) and #24 St. John’s (11:00 a.m. Monday) to conclude tournament play. Final plans for the new tournament schedule will be announced on Thursday afternoon.
Due to the travel involved, UE and Kentucky Wesleyan have agreed to move the game originally scheduled for next Tuesday afternoon, February 26, to Tuesday, March 18 at 3:00 p.m. UE head coach David Seifert also announced the addition of Southeast Missouri State to the home schedule on Wednesday, April 2 at 6:00 p.m., with the previously-scheduled April 2 game against Brescia moving to Tuesday, April 1 at 6:00 p.m.
