EVANSVILLE, Ind.—The University of Wisconsin-Green Bay women’s basketball team entered this week on the verge of ranking among the nation’s Top 25. On Saturday, they showed why, with a convincing 83-37 victory over the University of Evansville at Roberts Stadium in Evansville.

The Phoenix turned 18 first-half Evansville turnovers into 19 points and scored 24 points in the paint in the opening 20 minutes to build a 41-21 halftime cushion. Green Bay continued its defensive pressure in the second half, limiting Evansville to just 16.7 percent shooting from the floor after halftime (5-of-30) and 16 points total, as the Phoenix cruised to their 27th consecutive regular-season victory.

Evansville held a momentary 2-0 lead to begin the game on a lay-up by freshman center Samantha Heck 48 seconds into the contest. Green Bay would answer back two possessions later, though, with a traditional three-point play by forward Julia Wojta with 18:32 to play to grab a lead the Phoenix would never lose.

Wojta, fellow forward Kayla Tetschlag, and reserve guard Adrian Ritchie would combine for 37 of Green Bay’s 41 points, as Green Bay’s motion offense found holes in the UE defense. On the afternoon, Wojta and Tetschlag would each score 19 points in 23 minutes of action to pace the visiting Phoenix, while Ritchie added 14 points and seven rebounds in 25 minutes of reserve action.

Ten of the 11 Purple Aces who saw action scored in the contest, although senior guard Amy Gallagher was the only player to total more than five points with a team-best six-point outing. Evansville finished the game shooting 23.6 percent from the floor (13-for-55) and 21.4 percent from three-point range (3-for-14), while the Phoenix forced 30 Evansville turnovers defensively.

With the victory, Green Bay remains as one of only 15 undefeated teams in the country with a perfect 9-0 record. Evansville, meanwhile, falls to 2-7 on the season. The Purple Aces will take this week off for final exams, before returning to the court next Saturday morning at 11:00 a.m. central time, as UE will travel to West Lafayette, Indiana to take on traditional Big Ten power Purdue. The match-up will feature a showdown between a pair of former Evansville Memorial High School standouts, as UE sophomore Chelsea Falkenstein will square off with her former high school teammate FahKara Malone. Saturday’s game can be heard live on 91.5 F.M.-WUEV.
