The University of Evansville swimming and diving team has announced the signing of swimmer Daniel Musselwhite from Murfreesboro, Tenn., and diver Mallet Reid from Hobbs, N.M.
Musselwhite swam for three years for the Middle Tennessee Home Education Association Swim Team while also swimming for the Nashville Aquatics Swim Team.
“Daniel comes from a great family, great work ethic and a great club team down in Nashville,” said Evansville head coach Rickey Perkins. “He will come and step in to be one of our top male distance swimmers right away. I can’t say enough about him—super kid, great grades, honest and will be a tremendous boost for us.”
Musselwhite received Most Improved from Nashville Aquatics during the 2008-09 season while being honored with the Leadership Award during the 2006-07 and 2007-08 seasons. Musselwhite helped his high school team to a ninth place finish in the 400 free relay at the 2008 State Championships.
Musselwhite plans on majoring in athletic training with plans to become a physical therapist.
Reid is a four-time letterwinner of the swimming and diving team for Hobbs High School in New Mexico.
“I feel that Mallet being on the team helps us tremendously already,” said Evansville diving coach Eric Blevins. “He’s a good athlete, great student and a good overall person. I feel that just us being able to get him to sign at Evansville is huge. Any team in the country would be really, really lucky to have someone like him on their team.”
Reid set the district and school diving records in 2007 and 2008. He placed second for the Eagles in the 2008 New Mexico State Dive Championship with 379.4 points. Reid also took first in the 2008 Santa Fe Invitational with a score of 434.25 while taking the top spot at the 2008 District Championships with 449.5 points.
Reid was also a member of the National Honor Society and plans to major in marketing/business at UE.
