Jays Come Back To Beat UE

Creighton spotted the University of Evansville one goal, then scored four of its own in the second half Thursday night at UE's Black Beauty Field to beat the Aces 4-1 in the final match of the regular season for both women's soccer teams.

The same two teams meet again Sunday at Omaha at 1:00 in the quarterfinal round of the State Farm Missouri Valley Conference Tournament. Creighton is the #3 seed and Evansville is #6. In the other quarterfinal match, #4 Drake will host #5 Indiana State. The Evansville-Creighton winner plays #2 Missouri State in the Nov. 6 semifinals at Omaha, and the Drake-Indiana State winner plays #1 Illinois State in the other semifinal. The championship match is Nov. 8.

Evansville took a 1-0 lead at 28:58 when Abby Guerra scored her second goal of the season from 10 yards out following a throw-in from Kaitlin Oldfield and a pass from Katelyn Smith. Eden Hingwing tied the scored at 60:42, set up by Macy Mauer's corner kick, and the Bluejays scored again at 61:26 when Beth Fyles got behind Evansville's defense to score past UE goalkeeper Chaviel Harrison from eight yards. Mauer followed with a goal at 72:46 and Fyles scored again at 75:18 to send the Bluejays into post-season play with an 11-5-2 overall record and 3-2-1 record in the MVC. Evansville is 5-12-0 and 2-4.

Creighton outshot the Aces 8-1 in the second half to finish with a 15-7 advantage. The Jays put nine shots on goals while Evansville had four, including two from Kristen Davis and one each from Guerra and Dani Langness.
