Thanks to
Mia Tofano's scoring and
Kara Murphy's defense, the University of Evansville has swept this week's Brine/Missouri Valley Conference Women's Soccer Player of the Week awards.
Tofano, a senior forward from Las Vegas, Nev., scored two goals in the first 18 minutes in Sunday's 5-1 win over Austin Peay. The four-point day moved Tofano into sixth place in career scoring at UE with 60 points, even though she is only in her third year with the Aces after transferring from St. Mary's (California).
Murphy, a senior central defender from St. Louis, Mo., was the leader of UE's defensive unit that allowed only one goal and four shots on goal last weekend in a 1-0 win over Morehead State and the 5-1 win over Austin Peay. Murphy also scored her third point of the season, assisting on
Rocky Hearst's first half goal against Austin Peay.
Evansville is now 3-1-1, and hosts 4-1-0 Belmont University on Wednesday at 7:00.
